True Blood Vol. 1: All Together Now

Summary: Blood and sex mix on a hot rainy night at Merlotte’s as Sookie and the usual suspects settle in for the long haul. Until, that is, they find themselves trapped by a vengeful, vile creature, one who feeds off the miserable shame of others—and none will survive until morning unless all their dirty little secrets are revealed. So Sookie, Bill, Eric, Sam, Tara, Jason, and Lafayette and are forced to dig deep and tell painful tales of their past—the kind you never willingly reveal! In a story plotted by True Blood creator Allan Ball, and written by David Tischman and Mariah Huehner, and with lush art by David Messina, Bon Temps, Louisiana, has never been more twisted!

So… I was pretty disappointed with this. I don’t normally pick up comics, but I was excited to read this one and it just kinda flopped for me. It was supposed to be a between-the-Seasons comics that gave a story between Seasons 2 and 3 of True Blood, but it really made more sense if you saw Season 3. And although it gave more back-story to the characters, I don’t feel that any of it was necessary. Also, the monster in the story didn’t stick to the True Blood theme—it looked more like something out of an alien sci-fi movie. The only thing that kept me reading was Lafayette. Every page he was on had me laughing because of just who he is. Another thing was the artwork. It wasn’t cartoonish—it actually looked very real and life-like. So overall, it really wasn’t my cup of tea, but it could be yours, so give it a shot.
